So You Thought the Steelers
'98-'99 Collapses Were Bad?

Steelers (7-7) vs Deadskins (7-7)
Article by McMillen & Wife

'Ya know, I can kinda empathize with Redskins fans. Their expectations going into this season were astronomically high (and frankly, unrealistic). Not only were they expected to win their division easily en route to the playoffs... many pundits anointed the Skins with the Lombardi Trophy immediately following the Y2K draft. With apologies to Chris Berman, "that's why they play the games."

No Respect!
Anointed to win the Super Bowl before the season, Jeff George and the Deadskins are now the Rodney Dangerfields of the NFL.
Steelers fans can relate. Following a surprisingly successful '97 season, our Steelers faced similar lofty expectations. And like the '00 Skins, our '98 Steelers stumbled through a dismal year epitomized by a devastating late-season collapse from which we have yet to fully recover.

There are several major differences, however. Our Steelers did NOT have the highest payroll in NFL history. They did NOT have the #2 and #3 overall picks in the draft. Nor did they have a clueless owner who humiliated his coach (a good man) by firing him while the season was still in progress. So, while it's true I can empathize with Skins fans and their disappointing 7-7 record, I'm happy to say I can't imagine what it would be like to root for a team with so little class.

Complete Schedule

I fully expect a Steeler win in this game. The Steelers are a team clawing their way back up, and the Skins are a team in the process of self-destructing.

Prediction (a la Sandy): Steelers 17, Skins 9.

See 'ya after the game, bruthas & sistas!
